Forbes’ World’s Billionaire List has tracked the changing fortunes of some of the most successful Indian companies and their founders/owners and reflecting the trends was the fact that Paytm chief Vijay Shekhar Sharma has emerged much richer especially as his digital payments startup simply skyrocketed after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced his demonisation drive by banning the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes that led people to en masse move towards cashless transactions. Since, the shortage of notes lasted well into February, Paytm earned a huge windfall and the same has been reflected in the riches that Sharma now owns. However, the same did not happen to another e-commerce major, Flipkart and its co-founders Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal. They have seen their massively successful venture’s huge valuation of some $15 bn at one time fall into high single digits and the duo’s riches have vanished to a large extent in tandem.
